Highly-specialised health centre opts for striking furnishing concept. Dauphin HumanDesign Group brightens up day-to-day life in clinic with Bosse, Dauphin, Trendoffice and Züco brands.

Offenhausen – March 2010. The Saarbrücken-based SHG clinic group (Saarland-Heilstätten GmbH) operates hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, care and occupational services as well as a care centre for the elderly. In addition to providing healthcare services, it has a stake in various other facilities including a haematological and oncological research laboratory. Each year, the group treats 16,000 inpatients and another 12,000 outpatients. It generates an annual turnover of around €65m and is the region’s second-largest employer.

Saarland-Heilstätten GmbH, one of the oldest hospital groups in Germany, was originally set up to treat tuberculosis sufferers. Over the last few decades, it has evolved into a highly-specialised group of clinics. SHG’s modern health centre in Völklingen has recently been extended and now boasts a futuristic new wing.

“Peace of mind through competence and friendliness”

The group's slogan is clearly reflected in its new extension. The building, which provides an extra 4,400 square metres of space, houses not only a reception area, a central admissions point, a large waiting and bistro area and a new ward with around 33 beds but also a multifunctional congress centre with up to 300 places. The bistro is open to patients, visitors, the clinic’s own staff and workers from neighbouring firms. The new kitchen also operates a lunchtime meals-on-wheels service for local people and provides daily meals for over 100 children in nearby schools and the residents of an old-people's home.

The new four-storey building links the four existing clinic buildings and the multi-storey car park and offers a new dimension of service-oriented patient care. This is reflected not only in its excellent medical facilities and high standards of care but also in its new furnishings too.

Hans Jürgen Baltes, owner of the specialist retail company of the same name, explained the design concept which was developed in close consultation with the Administrative Director Gabriele Haser: “This clinic is almost hotel-like. Wherever possible, we have created an atmosphere of well-being using transparent, open structures, light and friendly areas and stimulating colours. The high-quality items of seating from the Dauphin Group are all extremely comfortable and functional. With their distinctive design and harmonious colour scheme, they are fresh and invigorating too.”

The furnishing expert has been working with SHG clinics for over 20 years. When furnishing the new extension building in Völklingen, he has effortlessly created an extraordinary look which is sure to promote people’s health and recovery.
