The traditional “Gaisberg Mountain Circuit” vintage-car race will take place in Salzburg from 2 to 5 June 2010. Various organisations including office-furniture manufacturer Dauphin based in Middle Franconia are sponsoring the revived event which is now in its eighth year. This year, the family of entrepreneurs will be actively represented by Antje Dauphin.

The sight of historical vehicles of all types set against the attractive backdrop of the Salzkammergut is sure to set the pulse of any vintage-car or rally fan racing. The shiny, polished cars (sports, racing and touring cars produced up until 1969 are eligible) tear around the bends – as agile as they ever were. The drivers have great fun, delighting the spectators at the same time. The route of the regularly held race leads through the centre of Salzburg, around the Salzburgring and then on to the Gaisberg mountain.

Known as the “Austria’s top mountain prize”, the Gaisberg Mountain Circuit race originally took place between 1929 and 1969. Now in its eighth year, the revived event is being sponsored by Dauphin, a successful family-run manufacturer of office seating from Offenhausen near Nuremberg in Southern Germany. The Dauphins themselves are big fans of vintage cars. Indeed, daughter Antje Dauphin who will be actively taking part this year has competed in the race on six previous occasions.

This penchant for vintage cars is a family tradition. Over the past 30 years, Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin and his wife Elke have collected around 150 vintage cars and 240 nostalgic motorcycles – now one of the most impressive private collections in Europe. The Dauphin Speed Event, a combination of a private vehicle museum and an exclusive event location in Hersbruck, was launched in 2004 to allow other fans to enjoy these rare vehicles.

As far as the entrepreneurs are concerned, attributes such as drive, speed, sportsmanship, fun and design are important in day-to-day business too. With their enthusiasm and spirit of courage, they have built up one of the world's most successful office seating companies over the last 40 odd years.
