Municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel, Netherlands
In 2006, the conversion of the local authority administrative building into a citizens’ centre designed to be open and functional was completed for the Dutch municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel (Friesland). The cellular offices were scrapped. Instead, space was utilised much more efficiently and successfully in the old building, that had been gutted, using the “human space” room-partitioning system. Cost savings were made by accommodating a larger number of workplaces. As a result, the new building projects were confined to an area frequented by the public. Power sockets and data terminals as well as the lighting for individual workplaces are provided throughout the complex by means of the room-partitioning system. Sound-absorbing elements provide pleasant acoustics, and the bold colour scheme is also testament to the modern vision of the administrative authorities.
